Mert Kanibir

Mert Kanıbir is a Computer Science major at Binghamton University, where he conducts research through the AI Vision stream of the First-year Research Immersion (FRI) program. His work focuses on developing real-time sign language translation systems and assistants using machine learning, computer vision, and convolutional neural networks. Outside the lab, Mert serves as a Community Assistant in Hinman College, mentoring residents and organizing inclusive events. A recipient of Educational Opportunity Program support and an FRI scholar, he is deeply committed to access, equity, and building systems that empower people, values he also explored as Co-Founder of NAVINDOOR, a startup focused on accessibility for the visually impaired.
